Part 2: Saturday, Day 19: Observation Point in Zion National Park. She said Yes.

A little over two years ago in New Mexico I held Heather’s hand while watching a the movie “Clue.” It was really random and I really had no intentions of making a move on her. It was a scene out of junior high. Our hands kept inching towards each other till our pinkys touched, and then we took each other hands. Not sure really what to do being it was the end of the guiding season and she would be heading back to Utah to teach and I was staying in New Mexico to continue guiding. I definitely felt something for her but I really wasn’t sure how she felt about me.
After a few months of talking online and by phone she came out to Philmont at the end of October for a extended weekend. We stayed in cabin and did some hiking as we do. I took her to the Palisade Sill in the Cimarron Canyon. It is a nice over look and it was there I officially asked her out. We knew we had challenges ahead of us with our different beliefs but we are both stubborn and decided to give US a chance.
So there I was with permission from Mr. and Mrs. Wilson in my mind ready to hike with Heather to another over look. We go to the top of Observation Point in Zion National and I just had to wait for the couple groups of people to clear out. We finally had a little spot to ourselves and we set up the camera on a rock so we can take some pictures of us. I had this whole great speech in my head about challenges and what we have overcome and about no matter what we will conquer the challenges in the future just as we did this hike, together, and that with every challenge is a great reward (showing the view) and that a little over 2 years ago we hiked to a scenic view and I asked you to go out with me, and now I am going to ask you something else. Will you marry me?
That was the plan….which I just chucked off the cliff! Which if you know me…that is how I do things! I said that last part, about 2 years ago we hiked…and so on. I got down on one knee and asked…and she said yes.
So I want to thank everyone who has supported and believed in us from the beginning, everyone who knew we were both different but believed we would make it if we wanted to, for everyone who has accepted for who we are no matter what we think or believe and didn’t judge us. THANK YOU! We knew even before we started dating we were going to have challenges and now that we are engaged know we are still going to have challenges but we will be there hand in hand to face them, but we will always need the support of our friends and family to get us through.

Jonathan – Congratulations !! You will find your life much more rewarding sharing and dealing with all of the ups & downs with some — at least I have. I hope good fortune, good health, and a great and fulfilling life ahead of the two of you.
Thanks for all the good times & help during your Philmont days – I really enjoy those trips annually.

Poor Heather…little does she know that this picture from our living room is pretty much how we operate on a day to day basis. We are proud and thrilled to welcome her into our family and the asylum. “Let the wild rumpus begin!”
